Illumicrate Unboxing | January 2021

Illumicrate Unboxing | January 2021

Who doesn’t love a good book subscription box, eh? You get loads of bookish goodies, and when it arrives every month, it feels like your birthday/Christmas and it’s amazing. It’s like a present from you to you.

Anyway, let’s get into the unboxing!

The theme for this month’s Illumicrate was ‘Rebellious Royals’.

As usual with sub boxes, there is a spoiler card inside that tells you the theme for the month and also what you can find inside the box, but I never read this until I have seen every single item, as I don’t want to spoiled!

The first thing that I saw in the box was this package of mint tea from The Tea Leaf Company. I’m not really a big fan of different flavoured teas. I stick to English breakfast tea… I don’t like any others. However, many people DO like teas like this, so I can imagine that this mint tea would be a great item for them. This tea was inspired by Massinia from Mirage.

SOCKS! I LOVE SOCKS SO MUCH! And they’re fluffy which makes them even better. AND they’re inspired by You Should See Me in a Crown which makes them perfect. I loved that book so much. Actually, at the time of writing this, I’m currently wearing them, and my feet are so cosy. The socks are brought to us exclusively from Illumicrate.

I’m actually quite excited to put this box together, and pop a candle in there, so I can see the shadows dance across my room. I just need to find a place to put it… This shadow box was inspired by A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, and was designed by Dominique Ramsey (Euqinimodart).

The next item that I saw in the box were these bookmarks which were designed by MerWild, and were inspired by characters from A Court of Thorns and Roses. Unfortunately… I haven’t read that series yet, because I’m awful, BUT hopefully I can get around to it this year.

The last item in this months box was this jigsaw puzzle that inspired by The Folk of the Air series. The artwork was done by Niru, and the puzzle was designed by Chatty Nora. I do love a good jigsaw puzzle, but I have no idea what I’d do with it once it’s done. Do I put it all back in the box like I usually would? Or do I frame it? Even then, I have no wall space. Oh, dilemmas 😂

AAANNNNNDDDDD… The book of the month is Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell. This edition was signed by the author, had exclusive sprayed edges, and also had an exclusive design on the naked hardback. I haven’t actually heard anything about this book. It sounds good though!

While the Iskat Empire has long dominated the system through treaties and political alliances, several planets, including Thea, have begun to chafe under Iskat’s rule. When tragedy befalls Imperial Prince Taam, his Thean widower, Jainan, is rushed into an arranged marriage with Taam’s cousin, the disreputable Kiem, in a bid to keep the rising hostilities between the two worlds under control.

But when it comes to light that Prince Taam’s death may not have been an accident, and that Jainan himself may be a suspect, the unlikely pair must overcome their misgivings and learn to trust one another as they navigate the perils of the Iskat court, try to solve a murder, and prevent an interplanetary war… all while dealing with their growing feelings for each other.

Thank you to Illumicrate for a box filled to the brim of bookish goodness. I can’t wait for next months box which is themed ‘The City is Ours’. The book of the month will have sprayed edges, and will be signed by the author.

The March theme has also been revealed which is: Fighting Spirit!

The book of the month for March has sprayed edges, a hidden cover, and is signed by the author. I don’t actually have any idea what book this is!
