Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Meant to Read In 2020 but Didn’t Get To | 19/01/21

Yes, I’m here again with another Top 10 Tuesday post. I’m trying to get back into taking part in the weekly challenge as I love how it brings the book blogging community together!

This week, we’ll be talking about which books I meant to read in 2020 but… well… didn’t. Because I am awful at making TBR lists. Why I started my TBR Cart post series, I have no idea why. I’m a mood reader. I actually made a post at the beginning of 2020 talking about backlog books I wanted to read. Spoiler alert: I hardly read any of them. I then made a post of backlog books I wanted to read in 2021. So because I’ve already (kinda) done this post, I decided to use a few of the books from my own post, and then add a few more different books!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

The topic for this week is:

Books I Meant to Read In 2020 but Didn’t Get To

The rules are simple:

  • Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
  • Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
  • Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
  • Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.

Making this list actually makes me hate myself. I can’t believe I haven’t read some of these books already. An Ember in the Ashes and Illuminae are books that I think I just haven’t read yet because of the hype surrounding them. I know that I’ll probably love them, but I’m just… scared.

With Dark Matter, I actually started buddy reading this with one of my best friends. I think we read about 100 pages, but then we both had to concentrate on our Masters, so we decided to stop.

Queen of Coin and Whispers is a book that again, I also started. I have an e-arc of it, but I’ just not a fan of reading on my phone, so I always end up putting them down and forgetting about them.

The Midnight Library is a newer release so I don’t feel too guilty about not reading this already. I LOVE Matt Haig’s writing and this book sounds amazing.

Look… with Legendary and The Toll, I have no excuses. I really enjoyed Caraval, and I loved Scythe and Thunderhead, so I genuinely have no idea why I haven’t read these two books yet. 2021 is DEFINITELY the year that I’m going to read these.

At the time of writing this post, I’m actually in the process of reading Legendborn, so that’s one book I can cross off my list! I’m listening to the audiobook and following along with the physical copy, and I’m really enjoying it so far!

I’ve been reading A LOT of fantasy this past year, and I want to get back into contemporary and what’s a better way of doing that than reading You Should See Me in a Crown? I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book.

I’ve already read Nevernight, and I really enjoyed it! I started reading Godsgrave in 2020 but put it down for some unknown reason (story of my life).

  1. There are so many books here I also want to check out! Thankfully, I had no idea about the hype surrounding Illuminae when I read it – I just happened to pick it up in the library because it looked cool, and despite not being a huge sci-fi fan, I really enjoyed it. I have been avoiding An Ember in the Ashes, the Scythe series, and the Caraval series for similar hype reasons, even though I’m excited for all of them. I am planning to read Legendborn very soon though. I hope you’re able to get around to all of these, and I hope you enjoy them!
