Illumicrate Unboxing | December 2020

Illumicrate Unboxing | December 2020

Who doesn’t love a good book subscription box, eh? You get loads of bookish goodies, and when it arrives every month, it feels like your birthday/Christmas and it’s amazing. It’s like a present from you to you.

Anyway, let’s get into the unboxing!

The theme for this month’s Illumicrate was ‘A Legacy to Protect’.

As usual with sub boxes, there is a spoiler card inside that tells you the theme for the month and also what you can find inside the box, but I never read this until I have seen every single item, as I don’t want to spoiled! This months box was pretty battered. I have no idea why, but there was tape everywhere!!

I love the mugs that Rosie Thorns designs, but I now have way too many mugs which is something that I never thought I would say… But yeah… I now have WAY too many. This mug was inspired by The Daevabad trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty

There were two books included in this months box, and the first book was The Cousins by Karen M. McManus! I really want to read this book as I love a good YA thriller. This edition has beautiful black sprayed edges as well. Included was also a letter from the author that included this quote on the back!

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised… and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family’s past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I mean, I haven’t got a desk, but this desk notepad is something that would be so helpful when planning blog posts or something because, at the moment, I’ve just got an A4 piece of paper stuck on my cork board! This was inspired by The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang.

The next item that I saw was this nail file that was inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender and was designed by Hey Atlas Creative who is one of my favourite designers and I always love the things that they design.

This is such a cute idea. This photo album was created to put your artwork in that you receive from book boxes (or that you buy), and I just… ugh. Such a good idea. Mine keep falling off my wall, and I’ve run out of ideas of what to stick them up with. This album was designed by Ashley Diers and was inspired by Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

I love bookish fridge magnets! These two were inspired by The Green Bone saga by Fonda Lee, are were designed Anna Vee (@Kuhnoodleart).

AAAANNNNNNNNDDDDD… the book of the month is The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle PaigeThis gorgeous edition has sprayed edges and is signed by the authors.

Kappa Rho Nu isn’t your average sorority. Their parties are notorious. Their fundraisers are known for being Westerly College’s most elaborate affairs. But beneath the veil of Greek life and prestige, the sisters of Kappu Rho Nu share a secret: they’re a coven of witches.

For Vivi Deveraux, being one of Kappa Rho Nu’s Ravens means getting a chance to redefine herself.

For Scarlett Winters, a bonafide Raven and daughter of a legacy Raven, pledge this year means living up to her mother’s impossible expectations of becoming Kappa Rho Nu’s next president. Scarlett knows she’d be the perfect candidate — that is, if she didn’t have one human-sized skeleton in her closet….

When Vivi and Scarlett are paired as big and little for initiation, they find themselves sinking into the sinister world of blood oaths and betrayals.
