I started the audiobook for Daughter of the Siren Queen straight after I finished the first book because I just couldn’t get enough of Alosa and her adventures. I am SO GLAD that I didn’t have to wait a year in between each book because I don’t know how I would have managed.

Alosa’s mission is finally complete. Not only has she recovered all three pieces of the map to a legendary hidden treasure, but the pirates who originally took her captive are now prisoners on her ship. Still unfairly attractive and unexpectedly loyal, first mate Riden is a constant distraction, but now he’s under her orders. And she takes great comfort in knowing that the villainous Vordan will soon be facing her father’s justice.

When Vordan exposes a secret her father has kept for years, Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race with the feared Pirate King. Despite the danger, Alosa knows they will recover the treasure first . . . after all, she is the daughter of the Siren Queen.

It’s very rare that I actually like the second book better than the first, but when it comes to Daughter of the Siren Queen, it’s EXACTLY that: better than it’s predecessor. Don’t me wrong, I loved Daughter of the Pirate King, but there was something in Siren Queen that made it so much… more.

“I may not have been born in the sea, but I was born to rule it.”

― Tricia Levenseller, Daughter of the Siren Queen

This book takes place a couple of weeks after the first one, and we are thrown straight into the thick of it, as Alosa now has the pieces of the map, it’s now time for her to race to the island to get the treasure. In the first book, we are introduced to Alosa’s A-MAZ-ING crew, but in this book, we learn so much more about them which I loved so much. I loved the crew in the first book, without knowing a lot about them, but now that I know their histories and how they came to be part of Alosa’s crew, I just love them even more. The crew play a much bigger part in this story, as they work together on their mission, and as the book progresses, you WILL fall in love with them even more. There were definitely a lot of tear-jerking moments between the crew, and it just made me fall in love with the characters even more and made the connection between them stronger than ever.

Alosa as a character was more amazing than ever. At no point throughout the book did she need to rely on a man to help her with her goals. She was so strong, and as I stated in my review of the first book, she wasn’t afraid to kill which was refreshing.

“I have twenty-eight excellent girls aboard this ship, and their pasts have shaped them. Just as yours has shaped you. And every single one of them, down to little Roslyn, deserves your respect.”

― Tricia Levenseller, Daughter of the Siren Queen

This duology is about pirates, sirens, and Alosa being caught in between two very different worlds. If you are reading this review, then I’m guessing you’ve read Daughter of the Pirate King. If you haven’t read the first book yet, then DO NOT CARRY ON READING AS THERE ARE SPOILERS. Another thing that I loved about the book was that Levenseller explored the siren side of Alosa even more and it was so interesting to see the change that happened in her when she went into the water and the descriptions that Levenseller used to describe this was beautiful.

There wasn’t as much banter between Alosa and Riden in this book as there was in the first book. Their relationship in Daughter of the Siren Queen centred more around the serious parts of being in a relationship: where they stand with each other, Riden trying to come to terms with the siren side of Alosa… Don’t get me wrong, there were still banterous moments between the two of them, but not as much, which I guess was a good AND a bad thing.

“It seems the only way to have a conversation alone with you is to ambush you in the halls.”
“Most men would take that as a hint and back the hell off.”

― Tricia Levenseller, Daughter of the Siren Queen

I think that the only negative thing that I have to say about this book was that we only get a small peek into the siren world. I mean… Alosa is the daughter of the freakin’ queen of the sirens. Surely, we should get more of an insight into their world than what we did.

However, I desperately didn’t want this story to be over, and I really wish that there could have been more books in this series but alas, it’s only a duology. I am SO GLAD that I decided to read this series and I genuinely think that I might end up reading it again very soon.
