YALC Haul | 2019

YALC Haul | 2019

I’m actually writing this two weeks after YALC has finished… It took me so long to do this blog post, from taking the pictures, to including the links! Anyway, as the title suggests, this post shows you all of the things that I got whilst I was at YALC in London this year. I didn’t actually BUY a lot. Most of the things that you can see in this post are free things that I managed to pick up whilst I was there.

So without any further ado, let’s get on with the haul!

My Thoughts on YALC | 2019

My Thoughts on YALC | 2019

This is my second year at YALC and I was so excited to go so that I could see all of my friends again and some more amazing authors. If you want to read about what I thought of YALC last year, check out my blog post.

I can’t believe that it’s a second year of YALC that’s been and gone. The tickets are available to purchase in January, and it seems like you’re waiting forever for July to come around, and when it does, BAM, it’s already over.

I feel like an opinion piece for YALC is so important, because people need to raise awareness of things that could be improved and the things that are doing well so that the organisers can improve on them next year.

YALC TBR | 2019

YALC TBR | 2019

I absolutely loved YALC last year, and I knew that I definitely wanted to try and make it every year. I had a bit of a stressful time this year with booking my tickets for YALC, as I soon found out that YALC and my graduation are happening on the same weekend. But I decided to defer my graduation until January and make YALC the priority.

It is an expensive weekend, to be honest. It was £60 for the ticket and then I had to book a hotel for the three nights, and then obviously there are going to be stalls where I’ll want to buy things, so it’s going to get very expensive. BUT! It only happens once a year, so I don’t mind. Anyway, here is the full overview of what I’m looking forward to, and my reading plans.

YALC Line Up | 2019

YALC Line Up | 2019

Okay, so last year, I only did a TBR post, but since YALC released all of the authors for 2019 at the same time, I thought that I would make it slightly easier for me (and you) to figure out which authors are going to be on which days. The full schedule for the weekend will be going up on the London Film and Comic Con website on Friday 3rd May.

Let’s get down to business!

Yes, I know that I’m like a billion years too late in reading this. My TBR IS MILES AND MILES long, and if I’m being completely honest, I only read this when I did because Samantha Shannon was at YALC so I probably wouldn’t have read it for another billion years. BUT IT’S OK! I’ve read it now! And I can honestly say that I’m really sad that I didn’t read beforehand, because I really really enjoyed it.

I had seen quite a lot of BookTubers talk about this book prior to its release, and the one thing that really captured my attention about this book was the cover. It has such beautiful gold foiling that shines and it’s just gorgeous. The only problem for me was that I went into this book with low expectations. I don’t really read a lot of historical fiction because of the connotations that are attached the genre (boring, long-winded…), but I think it’s safe to say that I was positively surprised.

P.S I also have blog posts detailing what I did on each day at YALC! (Day one, day two, day three, and day four, and there’s also my review of YALC)

I do love a good contemporary. For me, it’s the genre that I always go to when I want quick, light read. Or even if I’m in a major reading slump and I NEED TO GET OUT OF IT RIGHT THEN AND THERE. When it came to reading A Bad Boy Stole My Bra, it was because I needed a quick, light read. I was on the way back from Malta, the sun was shining, and I wanted something where I could chill, and not think too hard. (That sounds so bad like I’m saying contemporaries aren’t hard to write, but I just mean I don’t have to concentrate on world-building or the pronunciation of fantastical names. I do not mean any offence.)

My Thoughts on YALC | 2018

My Thoughts on YALC | 2018

Wow, okay so YALC has just happened… It’s been nearly 2 weeks since I came back from YALC, and after seeing so much traffic for my daily YALC posts, I decided to write an opinions piece on it. I feel like this is such an important thing to do, because people need to raise awareness of the good things and the bad, so that the Showmasters can decide which things need improving for next year.

I do have a lot of thoughts on YALC, both positive and negative and I’m going to try and explain the negative as best as I can. Do remember, this year was my first year at YALC, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, other than what my friends have said.
