Fairy Loot Unboxing | April 2019

Fairy Loot Unboxing | April 2019

Welcome back to ANOTHER Fairy Loot unboxing! If you don’t already know, I now also have a YouTube channel where I have also filmed an unboxing as well as writing this blog post. So, for this month the theme was ‘Dark Magic’ and when the theme was announced last month, I genuinely had no idea what the book was going to be. I scoured Goodreads for even a little clue, but I couldn’t find anything!

Let’s get on with the unboxing…

Another Fairy Loot box means another month of gorgeous artwork which is designed by Taratjah! The artwork for this month is absolutely amazing and sums up the book and theme perfectly. On the back of this card is all of the information about each item, but I never look at this as it contains spoilers as to what is in the box, and I WANT TO BE SURPRISED!

The first thing that I saw when I opened this months box was this adorable tea strainer. The item is inspired by Mister Kindly from Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I don’t buy loose tea, but I might just have to so I can use this! This was bought to us exclusively by Fairy Loot.

I love a good notebook, AND THIS ONE IS SO SHINY WHICH I CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF! It’s inspired by Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, and features the quote ‘We are all children of blood and bone. All instruments of virtue and vengeance.‘ I love these kind of notebooks because they’re just the right size for me to fit in my bag. This was designed by Stella’s Bookish Art.

How amazing is this??!!! I didn’t quite know what it was at first, but after consulting the spoiler card, I found out it was soap which is pretty cool, but I don’t want to use it because I don’t want to ruin it! It’s inspired (obviously) by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and was made by Pretty Suds.

I don’t think a book worm can have too many book sleeves! This one is inspired by A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab which I’ve just finished and I loved! On one side is a map of the different London’s and on the other side is artwork of Kell and Lila. I think this book sleeve is quite a lot bigger than previous ones which is good! I’m still after a book sleeve with a zip though!

Another thing that I can’t get enough of is tote bags! I love them so much, as they’re perfect for everything. This one is inspired by the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo and features a quote on one side that says ‘the problem with wanting is that it makes you weak’ which is designed by KDP Letters, and then on the other side is some amazing artwork by @morgana0anagrom.

Ever since Fairy Loot included a pin flag in one of their previous boxes, I have been obsessed with finding gorgeous pins to put on it, and this is definitely one I can put on. It’s inspired by A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer and was designed by Literary Emporium.

As usual, there are collectable tarot cards in each Fairy Loot box, and every few months, Fairy Loot will change the book that the cards are based on. These two are the next two in the Six of Crows series and the art work was done by @artbyemmilinne

The only promotional item included in this months box was a postcard advertising We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia which I REALLY WANT TO READ BECAUSE IT LOOKS AMAZING!

At the Medio School for Girls, distinguished young women are trained for one of two roles in their polarized society. Depending on her specialization, a graduate will one day run a husband’s household or raise his children, but both are promised a life of comfort and luxury, far from the frequent political uprisings of the lower class. Daniela Vargas is the school’s top student, but her bright future depends upon no one discovering her darkest secret—that her pedigree is a lie. Her parents sacrificed everything to obtain forged identification papers so Dani could rise above her station. Now that her marriage to an important politico’s son is fast approaching, she must keep the truth hidden or be sent back to the fringes of society, where famine and poverty rule supreme.

On her graduation night, Dani seems to be in the clear, despite the surprises that unfold. But nothing prepares her for all the difficult choices she must make, especially when she is asked to spy for a resistance group desperately fighting to bring equality to Medio. Will Dani cling to the privilege her parents fought to win for her, or to give up everything she’s strived for in pursuit of a free Medio—and a chance at a forbidden love?

Annnnndddd, the book of the month is Nocturna by Maya Motayne. I haven’t heard anything about this book on the blogosphere or on YouTube so it’s quite the mystery to me. But, after reading the synopsis and some reviews, I’m really excited to read it!

This month’s book included an exclusive Fairy Loot cover, spray painted pages, and is physically signed by the author.

Along with the book, there was also a letter from the author with some character art work on the back that was designed by @niru.sky. who is incredibly talented!

Set in a Latinx-inspired world, a face-changing thief and a risk-taking prince must team up to defeat a powerful evil they accidentally unleashed.

To Finn Voy, magic is two things: a knife to hold under the chin of anyone who crosses her…and a disguise she shrugs on as easily as others pull on cloaks.

As a talented faceshifter, it’s been years since Finn has seen her own face, and that’s exactly how she likes it. But when Finn gets caught by a powerful mobster, she’s forced into an impossible mission: steal a legendary treasure from Castallan’s royal palace or be stripped of her magic forever.

After the murder of his older brother, Prince Alfehr is first in line for the Castallan throne. But Alfie can’t help but feel that he will never live up to his brother’s legacy. Riddled with grief, Alfie is obsessed with finding a way to bring his brother back, even if it means dabbling in forbidden magic.

But when Finn and Alfie’s fates collide, they accidentally unlock a terrible, ancient power—which, if not contained, will devour the world. And with Castallan’s fate in their hands, Alfie and Finn must race to vanquish what they have unleashed, even if it means facing the deepest darkness in their pasts.

As always, Fairy Loot included the Fairyscoop newsletter which includes an interview with the author and also the information for next months box (which sounds A-MAZ-ING!), and then they also include a bookmark that has the artwork of the month printed on the front and then ‘Fairy Loot / April 2019 / ‘Dark Magic’ printed on the back!

Thank you to Fairy Loot for another month of bookish goodness. I can’t wait for next months box which is themed ‘Unlikely Romances’. After reading the description of the book, and checking Goodreads lists, I have no clue on what the book is, so it means that it’s going to be a nice surprise!

Fairy Loot have stated that the May box will feature spray painted pages and will be physically signed by the author
