First Impression Friday | 05/10/18

If you’re not aware of what First Impression Friday is, it was created by Joe at JW Martin – Storeys of Stories where, every Friday, he talks about his first impressions of his current read. I actually think that I’m going to do this bi-weekly because, at the moment, I don’t think that I’m going to be reading books that quick due to university.

I also think that – where Joe has said that he will just come back to his FIF post and link his reviews – I’m going to come back to the post, and just write if I was wrong or right. So I have my predicted ratings, and then I’m going to write my actual rating and a couple of sentences on what I actually thought. But I will link my full review as well (once it’s written!)

Title: Shatter Me

Author: Tahereh Mafi

Publication Date: 10th February 2012

Publisher: Electric Monkey

Pages: 336

Genre: YA Fantasy

Series: Shatter Me #1

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

So I know that this post is going up on a Friday, but I’m actually writing this on a Wednesday because I’m trying to get ahead with my blog posts, so you never know, I could have finished this by the time Friday rolls around.

Obviously, I was going into this book knowing that A LOT of people love it. So there was a lot of hype surrounding it. I never realised how short it is either?! It’s only about 330 pages and so far it’s been a really quick and easy read. However, I’m not a fan of the writing style. I can’t be dealing with the strikethroughs and numbers being written as ‘2’ and not ‘two’. It also annoys me how much Juliette exaggerates ‘oh it took me 15 years to walk to the elevator’, bloody hell love, it’s only 5 metres away, no need to be so lazy.

I do like the romance though and I ship Juliette and Adam so much! I’ve heard that people ship Juliette with Warner and I have no idea why because HE’S AN UTTER PSYCHOPATH!!

I’m on page 50 at the moment, and even though I do have my qualms with it, I am enjoying the reading experience, and I can’t wait to see what happens further on in the novel.

My predicted rating:

I’ll be back next week (or in 2 weeks…) to share my first impressions of the book that I am reading at the time!
