Anime That I’ve Been Loving Lately

Anime That I’ve Been Loving Lately

Anime. It’s one of the things that I absolutely love. I love how much hard work goes into creating just one scene, I love the action, the romance, the fantasy, the science. It’s such an art. About a year ago, I came across Crunchyroll, which is an anime streaming service and has pretty much everything.

It’s very rare that I talk about anything other than books. I did a post a couple of weeks ago talking about the music that I’ve been loving lately, but I wanted to share with you some of the anime that I’ve been loving the past few weeks. I wrote a post about my top 5 Studio Ghibli films AGGGGGGEEESSSS ago, but that’s about it!

Just a quick disclaimer, that these are in no particular order, they’re just a random list of ones I love.

Dr Stone

This is an anime that is VERY new to my watchlist. I finished watching it last week and watched all of the first season within one day. It follows an 18-year-old genius called Senkū Ishigami who’s aim is to restore humanity and all of the science in the world, after a green light petrified the entire world, leaving them cast in stone for 3,700 years.

The amazing thing about this anime is the science of it. I think I’ve actually learned more science from this anime than I did in school.

Attack on Titan

How could I have an anime list without naming Attack on Titan? The final season (season 4) came out a couple of weeks ago, and to prepare myself, I re-watched the first three seasons. When the first episode of the finale was released, Crunchyroll crashed because SO MANY PEOPLE were trying to watch it. If you haven’t heard of Attack on Titan before, then where have you been?! It’s set in a world where the entire of humanity lives in cities surrounded by humungous walls that protect them from titans, which are gigantic man-eating things. The plot follows our main protagonist, Eren Yeager, who vows to himself and everyone around him to kill every last titan after one destroys his hometown.

CW: MAJOR GORE AND DEATH AND JUST GENERAL DESTRUCTION. DO NOT WATCH IF YOU GET A QUEASY STOMACH EASILY.

One Piece

Since we’re in lockdown, I thought it would be the perfect time to try and finish One Piece… Which is an enormous goal considering there are hundreds of episodes. It’s an absolute classic anime and one which I highly recommend due to its amazing humourous dialogue, action, and just a generally good storyline. It basically follows the character Monkey D. Luffy who wants to become the next King of the Pirates. To do this, he travels the sea’s in search of the perfect crew, and in search of the ultimate treasure which is called the ‘one piece’.

Demon Slayer

I was reading Neo magazine a month back, and they were going on and on about how Demon Slayer was slashing loads of records in Japan, and I became very intrigued because I’m always looking for new anime to watch or manga to read. It’s a pretty stereotypical anime: after going into town to sell some coal, Tanjiro Kamado returns to his home to find his family has been killed, and his sister has been turned into a demon. The show follows Tanjiro as he trains to become a demon slayer and to get his revenge on the demon who killed his family.

There is only one season of Demon Slayer (I think there are 26 episodes), and there is a film that is already out in Japan and has become of the most popular anime’s, nearly surpassing Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, which has held the number one spot for records since it was released in 2001.

Akame ga Kill!

The final anime that I’m going to be talking about is Akame ga Kill! which is an anime that I’ve been wanting to watch FOR AAGGGGESSS! The only thing that made me feel a bit ‘meh’ was that some of the girls in the show were VERY sexualised, but I guess that’s something that I should be used to when watching anime. Akame ga Kill! follows Tatsumi who is a young villager who travels to the capital to raise money for his village. Whilst he’s in the capital, he discovers corruption, which is where the assassin group called Night Raid recruits Tatsumi to join them in the fight against the corruption within the Empire.

It’s a 24-episode anime and if subtitles aren’t for you, then there is a dubbed version on the U.K. Netflix. I’m not sure about other countries, sorry 🙁

So, there we have it! Those are the 5 anime that I’ve been loving the past few weeks! I might make this into a *thing*, where I keep updating you all on what anime I’ve been loving! Is that something that you would like to see? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time…
