Fairy Loot Unboxing | June 2020

Fairy Loot Unboxing | June 2020

Welcome back to ANOTHER Fairy Loot unboxing! So, for this month the theme was ‘A Different Kind of Magic’ and when the theme was announced last month, I knew exactly what the book was. Due to everything that’s going on in the world right now, the Fairy Loot subscription boxes were delayed in shipping which is completely understandable.

Let’s get on with the unboxing…

April & May Book Haul | 2020

April & May Book Haul | 2020

I love how I said I was back in the blogging game, and then BAM, I’ve gone again for ages. But I have a good excuse! I was working on the penultimate part of my Masters, and now that it’s handed in and my. next deadline in September, I can finally dedicate my time to blogging.

And what do I do when my mental health is at an all time low and I’m in lockdown? Well… Buy some books, of course! Because I didn’t do my April book haul last month, I thought that I would combine April and May, so get ready for a big haul!

There are also spoilers for the March, April, and May Fairy Loot and Illumicrate boxes in case the postal services and couriers have been slow for you and haven’t been delivered yet.

For those of you who are regular readers of my blog, you will know that the Stalking Jack the Ripper series is one of my ultimate faves. The characters, the settings, the murder… Everything about it is *mwah*. I’ve always loved murder (okay, that sounds weird) and I’ve always been intrigued by forensics. So, it should come to you as no surprise that I like reading about things like that as well. I was looking for books similar to SJtR ON Goodreads, and came upon Spectacle

After reading Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller, I was sold on her writing style and the characters that she creates. I haven’t read her other standalone fantasy: Warrior of the Wild (but I intend to read it very soon!) because there was something about The Shadows Between Us that really captured my attention.

Where to begin with this review?! It’s not going to be as long as my other reviews as I know that I’m probably going to find it really hard to review this book without letting on to any spoilers!

I am so happy that Muse of Nightmares is FINALLY out, however, I’m gutted because it’s only a duology and I NEED MORE of Lazlo and Sarai. I mean… I guess that I could just keep re-reading the books, right?

As soon as I read the blurb for Internment, I knew that I had to request an early copy of it, and I am so glad that I did. I know that I only read it two months before the release date, but it meant that I could rave about it for two months and convinced loads of my friends to pre-order or buy it when it came out in the shops.

Content warnings: death, murder, islamophobia, racism, violence, torture, internment camps.

Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

Whenever I’m browsing NetGalley, it’s always the cover that intrigues me enough to read the synopsis. The cover of Blood Heir is absolutely gorgeous, and I was in awe of the design. So then I read the synopsis of the novel, and that sold me instantly. I clicked on ‘request’, and the next day, I had been approved and started reading straight away.

We are Blood and Thunder by Kesia Lupo

We are Blood and Thunder by Kesia Lupo

I’m actually writing this review about a month after I had finished reading it, so if the review seems a bit.. vague(?), this is why! But let me just tell you how excited I was to read a new young adult book from a debut author, but also… this is a fantasy book that was a standalone!! It is very very rare that we see this, so I was all here for it.

She Must Be Mad by Charly Cox

She Must Be Mad by Charly Cox

So before you go into reading this review, I just want to point out that there are two sections: the main review, and then at the end, there’s an update. I read this poetry collection for the first time in January 2019 and my feelings about it were ‘so so’. I read it for a second time in November 2020 and found it a little bit more enjoyable to read. The ‘update’ section at the end of the review are my thoughts after reading it for a second time!
