Whenever I’m browsing NetGalley, it’s always the cover that intrigues me enough to read the synopsis. The cover of Blood Heir is absolutely gorgeous, and I was in awe of the design. So then I read the synopsis of the novel, and that sold me instantly. I clicked on ‘request’, and the next day, I had been approved and started reading straight away.

Yes, I know that I’m like a billion years too late in reading this. My TBR IS MILES AND MILES long, and if I’m being completely honest, I only read this when I did because Samantha Shannon was at YALC so I probably wouldn’t have read it for another billion years. BUT IT’S OK! I’ve read it now! And I can honestly say that I’m really sad that I didn’t read beforehand, because I really really enjoyed it.

The one good thing about studying English at university, is that you have to read books that you never dreamt of reading, books that you didn’t even know existed. And sure, analysing the heck out of them *sometimes* takes the fun out of reading them for pleasure, but hey, at the end of the day, you’ve read a book that is new to you and that’s good! With Dawn, it was like that. I’d never heard of it (even though I HAD heard of Butler’s Kindred), and I hadn’t exactly had the best encounters with the other science fiction books that I had had to read for my course. But you know what? I actually really enjoyed this one.
