The three questions (Ws) are:

1.) What are you currently reading?
2.) What did you recently finish reading?
3.) What do you think you’ll read next?

So without any further ado, let’s get on with it, shall we?

Title: The Traitor’s Game

Author: Jennifer A. Nielsen

Progress: 47%

Thoughts:

I’m listening to the audiobook for this. I did want the physical copy because the cover is absolutely gorgeous, but I’m trying to save money, so the audiobook seemed a good way to go.

At first, I didn’t really like this book, the narrator read the book really weirdly (?) I don’t know how else to describe it… The pacing of her narration was so strange, but after a couple of hours, I got used to it.

For the story itself, it’s so captivating. I love reading about rebels and princes/princesses finding out not all is what it seems, and the flirting between two characters makes me ship them so hard! I’m currently 7 hours into the audiobook and I’ve got about 4 hours left so I’ll be finished with this in a couple of days!

Title: A Canticle for Leibowitz

Author: Walter M. Miller Jr.

Progress: 50/356

Thoughts:

THIS IS SUCH A SLOW GOING BOOK… It’s the first book that I have to read for my science fiction class and it’s such a boring book. Ok, so I know I’m only 50 pages in, but there is so much religious language, and I’m not religious which means that I have to keep looking up the words and making a note of what they mean. Which in turn, makes this book such a stop-start read…

I’ve heard that it does get better after 100 pages or so, so I’m trying to push myself to get to that point because I really want to enjoy this book if I’m going to be writing an essay on it. To be honest, I have to read it for next week, so I have no choice in whether to carry on with it or not…

Title: The Lantern’s Ember

Author: Colleen Houck

Progress: 209/416

Thoughts:

This is a weird one for me because when I’m reading The Lantern’s Ember, I really enjoy it, but then when I put it down, I have no motivation to pick it up and carry on reading it. It’s so strange.

The premise of the book itself is really interesting, but I feel like it comes across as more middle grade than YA fantasy, it’s not as serious, which I think lets it down for me. Here the characters are, exploring the other world and it the whole writing style/characters voice seems a bit immature? I don’t know. I’m really on the fence about this one at the moment.

I finished two books in the past week which is amazing for me because I seem to be reading very slowly this month. So, I finished Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, which I ended up really enjoying and then went on to buy the rest of the series straight away. And then I also finished listening to Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton, AND I NEED TO KNOW MORE! I’m so sad that this is the last book in the trilogy, but I feel like Hamilton wrapped the series up nicely whilst also pulling my heart out my chest and stomping on it.

I have no idea… I need to read books for university, so it will probably be one of those. I’m more of a mood reader than ‘following a TBR’ kind of reader. So as soon as I have finished The Traitor’s Game or The Lantern’s Ember, I’ll just look at my bookshelves and read whatever takes my fancy.

It’s nice to keep you guys updated on what I’m reading, and even though I do an end-of-the-month wrap-up, you never get to see what I’m reading during the week.

Until next time…
