Top 10 Tuesday: Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud | 23/02/21

Yes, I’m here again with another Top 10 Tuesday post. I’m trying to get back into taking part in the weekly challenge as I love how it brings the book blogging community together!

It’s very very very very rare that a book makes me laugh out loud, and I genuinely can’t remember the last book that made me do that. However, this list is comprised of books that made me smile loads, or snort laugh… You know the thing that I mean, right?

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

The topic for this week is:

Books That Made Me Laugh Out Loud (Claire @ Book Lovers Pizza)

The rules are simple:

  • Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
  • Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
  • Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
  • Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.

The Flatshare is a book that I’ve read recently and the banter within the friendships was just so good. When it comes to Girl, Woman, Other, it’s a strange book to put on this list, but there was a certain POV which I could relate to a lot, which made me smile. I think that Nevernight and Lockwood & Co. are pretty obvious choices for this week. The banter that Mia Corvere dishes out is pure brilliance, and the same goes with our favourite ghost-hunting team in Lockwood & Co.

For me, the back-and-forth dialogue between characters is so important. I love characters that throw shade, or are quick witted, and that’s exactly what Daughter of the Pirate King, The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, and When Dimple Met Rishi have.

Our final three books follow the same trend as the previous seven: quick witted dialogue. In Stalking Jack the Ripper, the relationship between Audrey Rose and Thomas is probably one of my favourites, and in close second comes Saga where the banter between Alana and Marko is just *chefs kiss*. The writing is brilliant, which the same can be said for Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows. The bond between our favourite criminals is what makes these books so brilliant, and the funny one-liners are just the cherry on the cake.

Future Top 10 Tuesday Topics:

March 2: Characters Whose Job I Wish I Had (maybe not even because the job sounds fun, but maybe the co-workers are cool or the boss is hot?)
March 9: Spring Cleaning Freebie (for example, books you’re planning to get rid of for whatever reason, book’s you’d like to clean off your TBR by either reading them or deciding you’re not interested, books that feel fresh and clean to you after winter is over, etc.)
March 16: Books On My Spring 2021 TBR
March 23: Funny Book Titles
March 30: Places In Books I’d Love to Live
April 6: Books I’d Gladly Throw Into the Ocean (submitted by Beauty & Her Books)
April 13: Book Titles That Sound Like They Could Be Crayola Crayon Colors (Take a moment and Google some of the crazy Crayola crayon colors that exist. April 20: Colorful Book Covers
April 27: Animals from Books (these could be mythical, real, main characters, sidekicks, companions/pets, shifters, etc.) (Submitted by Paige @paigesquared and Jennifer Y. @ Never Too Many to Read)
