Fairy Loot Unboxing | January 2021

Fairy Loot Unboxing | January 2021

Welcome back to ANOTHER Fairy Loot unboxing! So, for this month the theme was ‘Greek Mythology’ and when the theme was announced last month, I knew exactly what the book was going to be. For the past few months, Fairy Loot boxes have been arriving a few of weeks later than usual due to the pandemic, hence why the January box is actually being shipped in February.

Let’s get on with the unboxing…

Another Fairy Loot box means another month of gorgeous artwork which is designed by Taratjah! The artwork for this month is absolutely amazing and sums up the book and theme perfectly. On the back of this card is all of the information about each item, but I never look at this as it contains spoilers as to what is in the box, and I WANT TO BE SURPRISED!

I remember when Fairy Loot included a wooden cooking spoon in a previous box, and I absolutely loved it, and I still use it for everything whenever I can. It’s my special cooking spoon. And now, I can have another one! This one is so beautiful. It says “did you know food is infinitely more scrumptious when you’re in love?” and it’s taken from Lovely War by Julie Berry and was designed by KDP Letters.

This gorgeous trinket dish is inspired by the Greek mythology tale of Eros & Psyche, which is a legendary love story – but like most Greek myths, it’s filled with tragedy. This item was designed by Taratjah. I have a small collection of trinket dishes on my window sill, so I’m glad to add this one to the collection because I was running out of space to put my earrings.

The next item that I saw in this months box was this iron-on patch depicting Medusa, and was designed by Alyesasworld. I’d love to have a designated jacket where I could just sew or iron on all of the patches that I’ve received in book boxes, but 1) I can never find the perfect jacket for it and 2) I’m way too lazy for that.

You can never have enough bookmarks, especially ones that are as gorgeous as this! This metal bookmark was designed by Monolimeart and is inspired by Athena – the Goddess of War and Wisdom

This is another item that you can never have enough of: book sleeves. I doubt that YALC is going to be going ahead this year (again), but when it does, I’ll be prepared to keep all of the books that I buy safe with all of my amazing book sleeves that I’ve received in book boxes. This one was designed by Chatty Nora who is one of my favourite artists, and was inspired by Circe by Madeline Miller.

Of course, Fairy Loot couldn’t have a Greek Mythology box without including something that had to do with Percy Jackson. This art print was designed by Arz.

As usual, Fairy Loot have included tarot cards that are inspired by a fandom. This months tarot cards were inspired by The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh and were designed by @arz28

ANNNNNDDDDDD… the book of the month is Lore by Alexandra Bracken. The Fairy Loot edition includes an exclusive cover (click here to see original cover), sprayed and stencilled edges, signed by the author, artwork on the reverse dust jacket which was designed by @lizzart_zardonicz, and exclusive embossing on hardcover. It’s super exclusive. It seems to have every addition you could have on a book! As usual, there is also a letter from the author, which has character artwork on the back. This month, the artwork was by @runningquill_art.

Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family’s sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt’s promises of eternal glory. For years she’s pushed away any thought of revenge against the man–now a god–responsible for their deaths.

Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.

The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore’s decision to bind her fate to Athena’s and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost–and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees.

As always, Fairy Loot included the Fairyscoop newsletter which includes an interview with the author and also the information for next months box (which sounds A-MAZ-ING!), and then they also include a bookmark that has the artwork of the month printed on the front and then ‘Fairy Loot / January 2021 / ‘Greek Mythology’ printed on the back!
