Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

Whenever I’m browsing NetGalley, it’s always the cover that intrigues me enough to read the synopsis. The cover of Blood Heir is absolutely gorgeous, and I was in awe of the design. So then I read the synopsis of the novel, and that sold me instantly. I clicked on ‘request’, and the next day, I had been approved and started reading straight away.

I was browsing Audible, looking for a book to listen to when I came across The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter. From the title, I could tell that it was a take on Jekyll and Hyde. I read the premise, and it was something that I knew that I would really enjoy. I love reading books about classic literature, and I love reading re-tellings of them.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I’m quite late to the party for Stalking Jack the Ripper. I’m always a bit wary of when authors take a moment in history and turn it into a piece of fiction. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

But I’ve finally read the first one and all I can say is that it was worth the wait. This is such an exceptional book and I cannot wait to read more about this world.

Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer

Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer

I think this may be the first obvious re-telling novel that I’ve actually reviewed on my webiste. I know that I read and reviewed Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh, but that didn’t read like a re-telling at all, whereas Spindle Fire did. The connections between this novel and the original fairy tale were obvious. However, there were still big twists and turns in this novel that I really liked.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

A re-telling of Cinderella and geekiness… What’s not to love about the concept of this book. I am a geek. I am proud of being a geek and if anyone calls me one, I’m like ‘HELL YEAH!’ Cinderella isn’t my favourite Brothers Grimm or Disney story so I didn’t think that I would absolutely love it. But I did… I really did.
